Description of Section:
We are active section that provides variety of activities and events for foreign students. We regularly organize trips to discover unique Slovak nature and traditional culture. We can mentiontrips to the High and Low Tatras, visits of ancient castles, folklore festivals and so on. There have also been very successful trips todifferent countries: Budapest, Krakow, Venice... We support team spirit and team sports when we can all together move our bodies. We have organized sport days, football matches, afternoon bowling, skiing or supporting home hockey team. They can improve their level of Slovak language in interactive classes that take place every week. We try to teach them useful, but also catchy phrases by interactive and funny way. Foreign students are like night animals. They are the most active at night and that's good reason to organize various parties of different topic for them. We are doing our best to entertain Erasmus students and to have a good time all together.
History of section:
ESN UMB BB is one of the ESN sections in Slovakia, located in the heart of Europe – Banska Bystrica. We started our existence in January 2010. Our activity focuses on buddy system and organization of various events for exchange students. Buddy system is Students Helping Students system in which home Slovak students help incoming foreign students before their arrival with advice, organize their time after their arrival and provide them with information during all semester. Matej Bel University (UMB) is a university in the central Slovak town Banska Bystrica. UMB was established in 1992 after the integration of the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Economics. Banska Bystrica has a long tradition in schooling and culture. It is named after Matej Bel, an outstanding Hungarian-Slovak scholar in the 18th century. Matej Bel University represents a significant and modern scientific research and educational institution that is one of the biggest universities in Slovakia.
